Patience is something that I want to teach my child ever since. I consider it as a necessity especially in facing the everyday challenges. It is one of the greatest armor that she can use in order to survive life in the future. Being a short fuse or short tempered will not make her a desirable person. I want my baby to be more calm and positive minded when dealing with her own problems.
The first thing we taught her during her early months is to wait patiently. It may sound like awkward to some but yes we introduced her the art of patience this early. Whenever she wants something, we do not automatically give her what she wants except for food and milk because she needs them. For example if she needed a toy or anything that caught her attention, she will throw a tantrum or cry just to get what she wants. We did not deprive her of those things but before we give in to her "wants", we always say to her "WAIT Please..." then we count 1,2,3...After this, we can now give her what she asks from us. This became a routine as she grows up.
At first the result is unnoticeable. But when she's 15 months, our efforts paid off. We are so glad that she know now how to be patient even in little things. Whenever we say "wait", she waits and does not complain. So my advice to mommies out there, just be patient when teaching your child. They will absorb them little by little, do not stop when you don't see results, it's not that easy. Remember to be patient as well. Our kids look up to us, they considered us as their models, so show them what you want them to be. Just avoid pressuring your child. It is definitely not good. So keep calm and be patient.
