My Year-ender Post

Few more hours and 2014 is here. The year 2013 has been so crazy but fun. I turned 27, and I realized many things about life, especially the importance of family. Now that I have my own, I realized that they are the ones who always got my back no matter what. 2013 also allowed me to see who my real friends are and who I should cut out. I admit this year was tough, but it did help me grow and be strong.

This year, I want to thank the Lord for always looking after and taking good care of my loved ones. I always pray that they will have a happy, healthy, safe, and contented life. I am also thankful for the many blessing we received - my baby G. turned one this year, and she's growing up so fast. Now, I am happy with my decision to take a break from office work and stay at home with my family. I will continuously pray that she'll grow up intelligent, kind, healthy, and beautiful. I am also thankful that my marriage is going strong. Despite the misunderstandings and fights, my husband and I will do our best to keep our bond and love stronger.

Hopefully, 2014 will be good for us. I have so many plans and want-to-dos for the coming year. So 2014, bring it on!

DIY: GIFT WRAP USING MAGAZINE PAGES

Merry Christmas! I know I know this is a very late post, but it's better late than never. How was your Christmas? Mine was so great, but weeks before the holidays I was so busy already. Well, I have to wrap more gifts and buy some more. It's tough to have so many godchildren, but it's fun. Anyway, I came across a fantastic gift wrapping idea on Pinterest - recycling magazine pages as gift wrappers. What a great way to save for gift wrappers! So without further ado, here are my masterpieces:

Since my magazine collection was not enough and I used his instead because my hubby's mags are better than mine. They are precious to him, but he gave them to me anyway, it's Christmas! I like the texture of Pulp Magazine; some of its pages have cool designs, which is excellent for gift wrapping. My problem was, most of my godchildren were girls, and the magazine is designed for "boys"; however, we still used it.

Here are just some of the gifts for them. I love to give something useful. When it comes to the little ones, I usually provide educational stuff.

And here was the result of my experiment. Well, I am proud of it. How about you? Share your Christmas DIY ideas. It's not yet too late.

3 Life Stressors and How to Deal with Them

With so many distractions that catch our attention, we never ran out of things to do, making us so busy with a lot of stuff. And because of this, we are becoming prone to stress. Different factors cause such, and it depends on our habits, lifestyle, environment, and the food we eat. I have been battling anxiety for so many years, and it became a more significant issue when I became a parent. Recently I suffered from extreme fatigue and stress - the time I've had enough. So what I did is list down the things that make me feel stressed. That way, I can evaluate and find solutions to this problem. After listing down my stressors and find ways to get rid of them, I can say that my day-to-day life is getting well. So here are some of the stressors that I think might also help you to determine your stressors;

Technology

Since I work as a freelancer, I usually spend 12 hours in front of the computer daily, and when I am relaxing, I always urge to use my phone to recheck the web. I realized that after using them, my eyes and back hurts a lot. It's an unfortunate habit. So to prevent stress early, focus on work and finish it on time. Limit internet browsing, especially if there's nothing essential to do. And I did this. After my shift, I spend my time with my baby and hubby.

Negative People

Sometimes other people can cause us to be stressed out. I have a few friends who constantly complain about their lives and relationships, which somehow impact me just because I sympathized with them. However, I realized that I am becoming their shock absorber, and in the end, I'm the one who feels like carrying a huge burden. I know there's nothing wrong with listening, especially if it is for a friend. However, make sure you are strong enough to absorb the negativity from other people's problems. If not, you can still listen. If asked for a bit of advice, give a suggestion, then shut. What I did is I took a break. I want to remove all the negative things thrown and absorbed by me. So, I took a break talking about problems; when I'm with them, I open up an exciting topic and happy stories unrelated to their lives and relationship issues.

Environment

I usually spend the whole day or week at home, in my little office without seeing other people and visiting places, talk about the downside of a home-based job. It stresses me out sometimes since I always see a messy room. So what I did is organize everything and see if I could make time for cleaning and family bonding. A cluttered place is a huge stressor, too, so better get rid of it. A clean environment eases the mind.

So far, these are my stressors and how I deal with them. It might be minor issues for some, but who knows, when these little things piled up, they are the worst. So, how do you deal with stress? Please share it! :)

Worth reading Indeed

I found this well written article worth reading for first time parents. For me, the best part of this article is

3. Your baby is not like the other babies.

"Your baby is the only one of herself who has ever been, and you and your partner are the only experts on her. Your baby will not behave like the books say, won't like what she's supposed to like, won't do what she's supposed to do when she's supposed to do it, and that's normal and great and perfectly OK. The best thing you can do is put down your literature and get to know your baby. What does she like? What makes her laugh? How does she best fall asleep? What does hungry sound like? The discovery of these things will serve you so much more than any stranger's care instructions ever will. You don't have to make your life or your family look like any particular model -- you don't have to follow the rules. You just have to create a life that works for you and fosters love and security and a whole lot of laughter. If that looks like 2 a.m. pancake parties, I'm not going to tell on you. I might actually admire you and be just a little bit jealous. "

The Devastation of Super Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines

I know this is off-topic, but I can't help but write something about Super Typhoon Yolanda and its victims. In my 27 years of existence, Yolanda (International name; Haiyan) is the strongest typhoon I have ever seen. Although it did not directly make landfall in our region, we still experienced its wrath and left some damages to our beloved city. The scene in Tacloban, one of the cities that experienced the power of this nasty storm, is truly heartbreaking. The city lost almost all of the houses, people, buildings, and all.

Super typhoon Yolanda or Haiyan was described as the most unusual, the strongest, and the most devastating typhoon worldwide for this year. It targeted the Visayas and its ten areas due to their massive size. It is a Megastorm as described by National Geographic. Read more of this info here.

I have also seen a few videos that will leave anyone in shock. Here are some of the footage taken by our country's brave media men.

Here are the links

Super Typhoon Yolanda Video 1

Super Typhoon Yolanda Video 2

In the city where I live, we also experienced strong winds and heavy rain. It is not the first time I share a powerful typhoon. Typhoon Reming is similar to Yolanda, it may not be a perfect storm, but it is also one of the strongest that left us with many casualties. We were also flooded and lost our home. So I know how it feels.

I am praying for the fast recovery of the affected areas. I know it will take a long time to recover and leave a massive scar in our hearts and minds, but life continues. We have to be strong and be thankful that God saved most of us from this typhoon. Bangon Pinas! Kaya natin 'to.

Helpful Resources for Toddler Separation Anxiety and Clingy Baby

Recently my 17 month old baby is getting too clingy. She cries almost everyday. I have no idea what triggered her. I researched the web and found out that I am not alone. Many moms from around the world are also facing the same issue. In one website, Parenting.com an article with a title Make your Clingy Baby Confident - it stated that this clingy thing is called separation and stranger anxiety. But one thing made me smile.."Babies who are the most connected early on have such strong trust in their parents that calm reassurance from mom and dad gives them the comfort to try new things or explore unfamiliar territory, knowing that help will be there if they need it." If you want to know more about this article, you can read it here.

Now, I am already aware of the clingy part, so I tried to find tips that will help me get rid of it. And here are the helpful links I have found:

Missin' Single-hood?

To mommies and even daddies out there, have you ever felt missin' your single life? Me, I do, sometimes. I think it's normal to first time parents to feel this. I feel guilty whenever I think about it since I chose to have my own family.

The memories of my single-hood strikes when everything isn't good. I even wish that sometimes it will be like this and like that. I can't even have my "me time" since my daughter is sooo energetic and she always want to be held.

My hubby and I used to do food trips even late at night, we go to different places to eat. After the baby comes, we rarely do this kind of thing. But despite of it all, we are blessed. Our baby has given us endless joy. Whenever we are down, she makes us so happy.

Yes, single-hood may have given me a lot of freedom to do things my way, but having my own family is still the best experience, gift, and blessing. How and why? That inexplicable joy you feel whenever you are with your family or loved ones is called blessing. There are things in life that we need to give up for something that is more important.  And that is how we give up single-hood to welcome our own family.

The Break up Script - I want to Find Myself

Recently, I have encountered a lot of break up stories from my friends mostly have long term relationships, you know that kind of 6 to 8 years relationships which we almost thought will end in a wedding. And the reasons? Guys and their " I need to find myself" script. If you're a girl, it is devastating, right? I don't see any good reasons about finding yourself after so many years. In fact, you can still find yourself while having your partner helping you. Or better find yourself first before settling or entering into a relationship. I think it is better that way than hurting other people especially if you and your partner already have a child. What is more painful is that, that guy saying " I want to find myself" is hooking up with other girl..sad. To girls who are currently in this situation, just remember you are strong and blessed enough not to be with that person that cheated you or played you for so many years. God has reasons why he gave you such love story. He wants you to learn something. He has different ways of letting us know what he wants us to do. Just trust him. He'll give you a happier life than you had with your previous partner.

Product Review: Human Heart Nature Baby Wash

Many moms are complaining about the stinky smell of sweat on their babies. Yes! even our sweet little angels can get a not-so-good odor. And I am one of those moms, Fiefie is a very active baby, she plays a lot and sweat a lot. I've tried branded shampoos and soaps found in every stores but they are not that effective. Until a friend of mine recommended Human Heart Nature Baby wash. I purchased a 50ml bottle first to try and I love it. HHN baby wash is an all in one baby wash made from all organic ingredients. It has a lavender smell which is heavenly soothing. What's good about this product is that, no matter how sweaty my baby is, she still smells good. It doesn't easily go away. You don't need to use a baby cologne or anything. I use it mostly as a shampoo since it's good on Fiefie's hair making it more smooth and shiny. As a liquid soap, it somehow makes my baby's skin dry which is the downside. Every baby's skin is different so it might not work well with my baby but who knows it might be good to your baby's skin. What I did is, I solely used it as her shampoo and Dove baby soap for her body.

closer look to the ingredients

As you can see, the ingredients are mostly natural. Here are some of the ingredients:

  • Decyl Glucoside - Decyl Glucoside is a natural, non-ionic surfactant, ideal for all foaming and cleansing products.  Our Decyl Glucoside, obtained from renewable raw materials, is a combination of plant based fatty alcohols (coconut c8-16) and glucose (corn starch).  Decyl Glucoside is a mild surfactant and because it does not dry it is ideal for the formulation of personal hygiene and toiletry cosmetics.  (Source: Ingredientstodiefor)

  • Coco Glucoside - is an non-ionic surfactant that can be used as a foaming agent, conditioner or emulsifier. It is derived from renewable raw materials such as coconut oil and fruit sugars, and is completely biodegradable. It contains no diethanolamides, lauryl sulfates, laureth sulfates, parabens or formaldehyde. (Source: newdirectionsaromatics.ca)

  • Gkyceryl Oleate - Glyceryl Oleate, also called, Glyceryl Monooleate, is obtained from naturally occurring oils and fats. It occurs as a clear amber or pale yellow liquid. In cosmetics and personal care products, it is predominantly used in the formulation of lipsticks, eye shadows, makeup bases, and skin care products. (Source: cosmeticsinfo.org)

  • Sodium Lactate -  a 60% concentration in water, and is the sodium salt of natural L(+)-Lactic Acid, produced through the fermentation of sugar, an alpha hydroxy acid that occurs everywhere in nature. (Source: Ingredientstodiefor)

  • Sodium Gluconate - is sodium salt of gluconic acid that is produced by the fermentation of glucose. PMP Sodium gluconate comes in a fine granular or powdered form. It is soluble in water, non corrosive, non toxic, biodegradable and biorenewable. (Source: pmpinc.com)

  • Sodium Cocoyle Isethionate- is a sodium salt ester, or a fatty acid derived from coconut oil. It is used in cosmetics and personal care products as a surfactant and is often seen in hair care products like shampoos because of its ability to help water to mix with oil and dirt, allowing them to be more easily rinsed away, according to CosmeticsInfo.org. Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is also seen as an ingredient in a variety of soaps and cleansing products. As a surfactant, it creates a wet feeling, it solubilizes oils and reduces surface tension, and can aid in foaming as well. (Source: Truthinaging.com)

  • Xantham Gum - Xanthan Gum is used by people who are allergic to gluten to add volume and viscosity to bread and other gluten-free baked goods. It is made from a tiny microorganism called Xanthomonas campestris and is a natural carbohydrate. (source: bobsredmill.com)

There you go. I would say this is perfect for my baby Fiefie. Now, my 50ml bottle (44.75 pesos) is empty and I purchased a bigger size 200ml which is worth 129.75 pesos . :) For me it's affordable.

Welcome to Mommyhood

Sleepless nights...exhausting days...but a rewarding job to do, that's motherhood. I started to appreciate my mom even more when I had my own child and experience everything about taking care of my own baby. I told myself, so this is how I gave my mom headaches, how I made her cry with exhaustion back then. But she loves me even I'm giving her problems. It is the exact thing I feel about my daughter who is kinda' giving me a hard time to sleep and tiring day. However, I know this is just the beginning. My daughter will not always be a baby and time will come I will miss the days I held her when she's crying, playing, kissing her endlessly and cuddling her when she's sad. Now I know, the hardest job in the world is not being the leader of a country or anything, but being a mother. :) I salute all the mothers out there whose trying to balance life as a mom, a wife and being her

Organic Brands and Sellers in the Philippines

After I gave birth, I decided to go organic. There are many reasons why I chose this path and one of these is to keep my family healthy and safe. I enjoy shopping organic made items especially for my baby. However, I do it online since our province does not have a store that offers pure organic products. Hopefully soon! And because of my obsession in organic things, I listed the stores and companies offering natural made products in the Philippines.

  1. Human Heart Nature - A friend dealer asked me to like her FB page and decided to check if they have baby products. I was impressed by the positive reviews from their customers. HHN has affordable products and easy to navigate website. I haven't tried their products yet since I have just ordered from my friend. They have huge varieties of products with prices that every mom will love. HHN offers products for babies, women and men.

  2. Tiny Buds - I discovered this product when I was pregnant, I used their rice baby powder and it was awesome. I actually bought it for my baby, but since I sweat a lot during my pregnancy I used it and it really works wonder. It keeps me dry and fresh. This powder is biodegradable and hypoallergenic, completely free from harmful talc and other chemicals. It keeps the baby’s skin healthy, fresh, moisturized and dry from perspiration. Aside from this, I also tried their Tiny Buds Baby Bottle & Utensil Wash which is made from mild natural cleaner. It is safe to use for babies since it is made from 100% food safe fruit extracts. It easily gets rid off the bacteria and foul odor from a left over formula. And since my baby frequently have insect bites, I used the Tiny Buds Scratch Off Natural Soothing Cool Gel which is specially formulated with natural ingredients to help soothe common skin discomfort like itch, swelling and redness from insect bites and other minor skin irritation for children and adults. (Source: Tiny Buds FB Page) Their products are quite pricey, however, they are effective and safe.

  3. Milea Organics - Haven't tried their products yet. But it has tons of positive reviews as well. They have products for babies, women and men. They also sell organic honey in different flavors which I would also want to try.

  4. GIGA Ventures -  One of the most well known sellers of natural beauty products. I heard a lot about their Giga Shampoo Bar, many customers says it has miraculous results. Will add this item to my grocery list for product review. They have many outlets in Manila. Unfortunately, here in Albay, we don't have their branch that's why I have to purchase online.

  5. Messy Bessy - They are known for their natural household cleaning products. I haven't tried their products too but definitely I would also want to purchase and see if they are really effective. I also love their vintage-like packaging, so cute. However, their products are pricey (ooops!). But if you mommies are interested, you can always check out their website.

  6. Zenutrients - It is a family owned business offering various types of organic products. They have different branches in Manila. Zenutrients is a brand that has everything you need from head to toe and more! All natural + organic shampoos, soaps, lotions, scrubs, butters and other products, made from the best that nature has to offer, handmade & bottled for you. (Source: Zenutrients FB Page)

  7. Leyende - From the Spanish word leyenda, meaning “legend” or “story,” Leyende is an emerging Filipino brand of handmade, natural and organic bath and body products following eco-friendly, artisanal principles. (S0urce: FB Leyende Page)

  8. Indigo baby - A one stop shop baby store. Their mission is to promote attachment parenting- breastfeeding, co-sleeping, babywearing and use all natural products for moms, dads and babies! (Source: Indigo Baby FB page)

  9. Sensou Nature Source - This shop sells almost all products of the brands listed here. In 2007, a group of friends began to individually discover how not just their lifestyle but also the products that they choose to use, can affect the well-being of both their families and the world outside. In the search for cleaner alternatives, they realized that they had to go all over Greater Manila to maintain this renewed lifestyle. These friends agreed how uncanny the irony was: buying green also meant buying more gas! (Source : Sesou Nature Source FB Page )

  10. Ilog Maria - one of my favorite organic sellers. They sell affordable organic products from their honey bee farm. Would also love to try  their products.

That's it! So far this is my compiled list of organic products sellers in the Philippines. Will update this post to add more brands and sellers. Ciao!

I can do this!

I always dreamed of becoming a writer but it seems that writing doesn't like me. I suck when it comes to grammar. I know it takes a lot of practice especially when English is not my mother tongue. Thousands of ideas are clouding my thoughts everyday but when I write I can't seem to express the right words. There are still a lot of things I need to learn. Hopefully, you (my reader) will support me in this journey. No discrimination please. I know I still have a lot of flaws in grammar but I'm getting there. Thanks a lot for understanding. This blog will serve as my draft.

Mortal Instruments - City of Bones + Jace = Super Cool!

Has anyone seen the movie Mortal Instruments: City of Bones? Has anyone noticed how hot Jace is? And Am I asking too much questions? Okay. I know the movie has been released recently, I think several months ago? Sorry I wasn't that updated about movies as I was before. You know when you're serious being a mom, you'll forget everything. Well almost. I know I know my hubby is adorable and everything, but I still appreciate the gorgeous creations in this world (lol). Anyway, I just want to share this giddiness to anyone interested to read this post. I can say I am now a big fan of this movie and the actors Jamie Campbell Bower and Lily Collins. I will definitely watch the sequel (City of Ashes). I'm planning to buy the books, however, I want to see Jace's face so I'll just wait for the part 2. :)

Are you Thirtyphobic?

Are you thirtyphobic? Yes, you read that right. It is a fear of turning 30 or reaching the age of 30. Well, thirtyphobic is just a word I invented (peace) Anyway let's get serious. Many people especially girls are quite hesitant to embrace being 30. This is because 30 is considered as the first stage in aging according to some old notion. Well I think most of the people I know are afraid of getting old. The thousand anti-aging products and articles on how to delay aging are some of the few evidences that most people have fear in turning 30.

While there are people who don't make it a big deal, but you'll be surprise that others do. As for me, I am not afraid of it, it's part of our life and we have to accept the fact that we are going to get old, die and turn into ash. Instead of putting on anti aging creams on your face and body, you should just embrace it and be happy with yourself. According to Dailymail UK  "a study carried out by Danish researchers, published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, found that rather than passing through the skin the liposomes break into pieces almost as soon as they make contact." In short, anti aging creams are not effective.

There's no problem in making yourself look good to at least hid the signs of aging but you must also focus your attention to some areas such as:

  • Keeping a healthy lifestyle - lessen the eating of junk foods, fastfoods and the likes. You know what they do to your body - THEY MAKE YOU LOOK OLDER FAST.
  • Remain positive and get rid of negative thoughts - If you want to avoid having stripes (wrinkles) on your face, stop stressing yourself out with unnecessary thoughts.
  • Develop a group of friends that you can laugh with - make sure they don't bring you headaches and problems or else they will add more stress to your life, hence making you look older.
  • Pray - Always talk to God. Maintain a good relationship with Him and you know you'll be fine even you get older. He will be your strength in times of fear and problems.
You can never stop yourself in reaching the age 30 or getting old. As you put positive thoughts to your mind, time will come that you'll accept everything. And be thankful because you've come this far living in this world.

Be Happy - it's the best anti aging treatment. :)

How to Discipline a Naughty Child

I asked my mom if she ever hit or spank us when we were younger, I know it's kind of a weird question to ask your mother, but then I still asked her anyway. I have read that it's okay to hit a child as a way of discipline, however, there are also some studies saying that hitting is not the right way to straighten up a naughty child. My mother told me that it is never right to hit or spank a child especially if they are under 2 years old. They usually mimic what adults do and they assume it is alright to hit someone.

And I observed those things with my 13 months niece. Her mom always tell her nanny that it's alright to hit her baby's hand if she's being bad. So the nanny do what she was told. If there are instances she's being naughty, nanny hits her hand. Several weeks later, I saw that my niece is starting to hit my baby when they are playing. That's the time I realized that my mom was right. Good thing, we don't do that to our baby.

What worries me about having a child is when it comes to discipline, first time moms usually the ones who struggle a lot when it comes to this. We never know what to do how to raise a good baby without using any kind of hitting. As a new parent, I researched for other ways that will help us raise a happy and good baby, well not a perfect one, but a child that will not give so much pain and be a good person when he/she grows up.

Here are some short tips to raise a happy and disciplined baby:

1. Make some rules. It is important to create rules and a few limitations especially in some things. Let your baby know that not all things are easy to get whenever he/she wants it. They may be young but surely they can understand you. Also, make it a habit to explain things whenever you try to impose discipline, this will benefit both of you and keep a peaceful home.

2. Teach your child the art of decision making. This is quite a tough task to do. You need tons of patience in order to help your child do this. Ask your child simple questions such as what clothes they want to wear? what toys they want to play? What foods they want to eat? And you can also add the "why" question. This will help him to figure out the do's and don'ts.

3. Learn to ignore tantrums. It is one of the most annoying thing that babies and toddlers do. But as a parent and an adult, you should also learn how to control your emotions. Do not be affected of tantrums, instead tell your child this "I know you are upset now, I'll come back when you're ready to talk" then walk away. Don't watch your child doing the tantrums because they will not stop.

4. Teach your child patience. This may look like a difficult thing to do but it's not. We teach our baby patience by letting her wait whenever she asks for something. For example, he wants that comb you're using don't hand it easily instead say "wait" and count 1 to 5 (silently), if your child waits and did not insist, well that's a good start. Just keep practicing.

5. Celebrate your child's act of kindness. when your little one behaves well, make him feel that mommy and daddy are happy with what he's doing. So make it a time for celebration like treat him with his favorite food and the likes. Make sure to explain why you are happy with his good behavior.

Doing these things will help your child's EQ (Emotional Intelligence) to improve. These are not the complete list of disciplining a child but they are some of the most doable. If you have suggestions, comments or feedback just hit the comment button. I am excited to hear from you. Love lots!

How to Teach Your One year old to Read

Hey there. I haven't posted for a long time because of my very hectic home life, but anyway, I am excited to share this post to all moms. It's about teaching your child how to read or speak, not specifically to be fluent but to at least give them a starting point in language.

As a first time mom, my guide to motherhood includes the elder's advices like my mom, mother-in-law, even the grandparents and friends. But no matter how abundant I am with guidance and advices from experienced people, I still feel like I am lacking of knowledge when it comes to being a mother, hence, I also run to other sources such as books, magazines and internet, providing me with other information that I haven't learned from the others. From reading the mother's forums and discussion, I came across a topic discussing about teaching toddlers how to read and speak. With this, I tried some of the suggestions I have learned.

I started noticing my baby so hooked up with nursery rhymes and phonics during her early months, I think she's 5 months that time when we started to let her watch baby phonics. She doesn't even cry or ask for attention while she's in that mode. Few months later, she started to recognize objects, but the words are not clear yet. At one year old, she can speak more words than any other kids her age.

Here's what we did, just want to share maybe you'll be interested to try for your child.

1. Watch phonics or nursery rhymes, specifically baby channels teaching ABC's, sounds, colors and the likes. We let our baby watch at least an hour a day during her early months but as she grows up, she spend more hours a day watching phonics and nursery rhymes. Take note of their favorites and let them watch it everyday, repeatedly so they will absorb what is taught from that video. Remember, they are like sponge absorbing what they see and hear. And the more they hear, they will easily pick up and remember the words. Some recommended baby channels are Super Simple Songs, Songs for Children, and Mother Goose Club. Reminder: You have to be with your child whenever he or she is at the front of the TV or a computer to guide and explain everything what is showed.

2. Read books with your baby everyday. This needs a lot of patience since not all young children wants to listen and read books. Look for the perfect timing like when they are in the mood. Do not force your child to read. I see a lot of parents pressure their child to learn many things. Remember, pressuring and over stimulation is bad for your child, it may greatly affect the learning.

3. Conduct a recitation. When my baby was one year old, we have this routine to ask her speak a word. And she is happily participating. However, just like reading, it also takes time and needs more patience.

4. Be an example. If you want your child to focus on learning, show him or her that you are also enjoying learning like showing them that you're reading a book, writing etc.

5. Exposing to real objects. A child easily absorbs what they have learned from phonics if they can see or touch it in real life. There are companies selling educational tools along with nursery rhymes, so the babies can not only listen but also to feel the objects. Grolier is one of the good example. But they are a bit expensive. If you want, you can make some DIY objects to partner it with their favorite nursery rhymes.

6. Let them play. Yes, this is important. Playing is an essential part of childhood. It gives your child a freedom to be with the other kids, to be himself and explore. Remember, through playing, your child can learn many things. Just make sure the play area is child proof.

So far, these are just some of the doable ways we've done to our baby. Hope it helps. Please share your experiences and techniques in teaching your child. Hit the comment box.

How to Teach your child to be Patient

Patience is something that I want to teach my child ever since. I consider it as a necessity especially in facing the everyday challenges. It is one of the greatest armor that she can use in order to survive life in the future. Being a short fuse or short tempered will not make her a desirable person. I want my baby to be more calm and positive minded when dealing with her own problems.

The first thing we taught her during her early months is to wait patiently. It may sound like awkward to some but yes we introduced her the art of patience this early. Whenever she wants something, we do not automatically give her what she wants except for food and milk because she needs them. For example if she needed a toy or anything that caught her attention, she will throw a tantrum or cry just to get what she wants. We did not deprive her of those things but before we give in to her "wants", we always say to her "WAIT Please..." then we count 1,2,3...After this, we can now give her what she asks from us. This became a routine as she grows up.

At first the result is unnoticeable. But when she's 15 months, our efforts paid off. We are so glad that she know now how to be patient even in little things. Whenever we say "wait", she waits and does not complain. So my advice to mommies out there, just be patient when teaching your child. They will absorb them little by little, do not stop when you don't see results, it's not that easy. Remember to be patient as well. Our kids look up to us, they considered us as their models, so show them what you want them to be. Just avoid pressuring your child. It is definitely not good. So keep calm and be patient.

Picky eater toddler - No! No!

I spent the whole day tweaking this blog and now it's 90% finished. Anyway, I am loving it's look. As I was writing this first "formal" post, the weather is gloomy here and I am thinking of a specific topic to discuss. (ding!)

Two weeks ago I was searching the web for tricks and tips on how I can get my toddler to eat well. She's a picky eater. I see a lot of parents struggling from this. In fact, it really worries me much. During my search I came across the name Samantha Lee - a cook and a mom. She says her children are also picky eaters that is why it made her do some unique food arrangements in every meal so they will be convinced to eat.

Here is a photo taken from her instagram:

How I wish I can do the same thing. Anyway, if you are also a mom who have the same problem like me, you might want to do that food arrangement thing. If not, here is a great book to read. You will probably enjoy this if you're a book lover.

I have a soft copy of this which I bought from an online site. But I haven't finish reading it. Will update you soon about my review.  Also, I searched for some other tips that might help me, so far she's eating a lot of cereals and more fruits which I think is good. What I do now during meal time is not to force her to eat. I don't want her to hate eating because of this. When it comes to foods she doesn't like, we still give her but not too much because we believe time will come she'll love the taste of it as she grows. We make sure she doesn't eat much salt and sweet. But she's doing great compare from the last few months. Will make a part 2 of this post for more tips and update. :)
